Company of Heroes 2 finally Announced

The latest issue of PC Gamer has an article about the long awaited CoH2 and there will be an "official" THQ briefing tomorrow.
Here is what CVG say about it:

QUOTE

According to mag CoH2 will use a vastly improved version of the first game's Essence 3 engine and feature a revamped line of sight mechanic called True Sight.

Have a look at the full details below:

Company of Heroes 2 will take place on the Russian front, with players controlling the Soviets as they battle the invading Nazi forces.

Snow plays a major part on the battlefield, falling and melting dynamically, and slowing your soldiers and tanks based on its depth.

The game runs on the Essence 3 engine, the latest version of the graphics engine Relic have been updating and expanding upon for years.

The cover system has been revamped, to function more realistically and allow soldiers to vault over obstacles.

Line of sight plays a large tactical role, with the game's fog of war based on what your soldier's can actually see. Relic call this system "True Sight", and it causes areas of the map to be grayed out and enemies within turned invisible by buildings, items of cover, or dropped smoke grenades.

The Normandy landing that opened Company of Heroes (and Saving Private Ryan, one of its key inspirations), was the 23rd biggest battle of World War 2. "13 of the 15 bloodiest battles" happened on the Eastern front, points out Company of Heroes lead designer, Quinn Duffy. The game should represent those battles and their vicious scale, as much as it does minute infantry tactics.

Just like the original, the scenery is highly destructible, and you'll be given control of plenty of tanks and other explosive equipment. That includes barn-burning flamethrowers.

There will be multiplayer, but Relic aren't ready yet to talk about it.

The game is due out 2013.

Tip: If you haven't played the first Company of Heroes and live in the UK pick up the next issue of PC Gamer, which comes with a free copy of the game. Order it here and you'll get it delivered direct to you.

I don't mind the Eastern Front theme although it seems a shame not to include other forces as well in the updated engine (assuming they aren't that is).

More news tomorrow.

Battlefield 3 Hints and Tips

The idea of this thread is to share any little pearls of wisdom, nuggets of neat information and gems of something or other useful with the rest of us.

Here are a couple of tips about flying helicopters:

Below Radar
As mentioned in the video thread, if you have this passive unlock, you only need to be with a certain distance of the ground (or any hill) for it to work and prevent locks. You do not need to be near ground level.

Avoiding Guided Missiles
There is a tactic that will help you in avoiding guided missiles and javelins even without using counter-measures. The tactic works like this:
1. You have to be flying at an altitude of around 90-110.
2. Once the missile is fired, give it just over a second to allow it to gain height over you.
3. The drop rapidly down to ground level (or as close as you can get without hitting it).

This is tricky to do because you need to know when the missile has been fired and it can be affected by the relative location and height of the firer, but it dramatically increases your chance of dodging these missiles.

ARMA2: Operation Arrowhead stuff?

Anyone have any recommended scenarios for OpArrowhead, or game types (like Domination, or Warfare for example) that are enjoyable to use? I had the impression that most of the modding/map making is finished now until Arma3 arrives. Just looking to get a bit of play in before 3 is out. Cheers!

Calling all Railworks Simmers

Over at UKTainsim (a really great community btw) they are running a couple of contests for the membership and one of them is The Great Scenario Challenge which challenges scenario designers to come up with a variety of scenarios for the stock game, using stock elements and or the elements from the outstanding UKTrainsim Community Freeware Packs that were released in August. Part of the object is to have a plethora of scenarios ready for play when the release of Trainsimulator 2012 (aka Railworks 3) goes gold (23 Sept.).

Anyway, what is needed is volunteer beta testors for the contestant scenarios (including my own three lol) so if you are willing to help out, check out this thread UKTS Forum

Much appreciated if you could help out!
